Earlier this week, we asked Michigan fans whether they feel the matchup before Ohio State is always a trap game. And now the results are in.
52% of fans think the game before Ohio State is always a trap game, no matter who the opponent is.
Michigan can’t really take its eyes off the prize at 8-2. If they were to lose to Maryland, their College Football Playoff hopes would disappear — the team knows they have no margin for error. Michigan’s not going to be too braggadocious heading into this road tilt
against the Terrapins, especially after narrowly beating Northwestern 24-22 last week. Further, Michigan is 8-1 in the week preceding the Ohio State matchup since 2015. All evidence points to the trap game narrative being overblown.
Maize n Brew reader paulcdevine had a couple of good quotes about whether this is a trap game or not.
- “The goal is for The Game to matter. If you lose to Maryland, it does not.”
- “Beating Maryland is the price of admission to everything Michigan is hoping for. No look ahead for Michigan.“
Ohio State might be No. 1, and that matchup might be the most important game some of these young Michigan players have ever experienced, but it likely won’t take away from Michigan’s focus against Maryland on Saturday.
