The Virginia Cavaliers (3-1) are 6.5 point underdogs in Friday night’s game against the Florida State Seminoles (3-0) according to FanDuel. The ‘Hoos are +195 to upset the Noles.
This comes after an encouraging
start to the season for Tony Elliott’s squad. Dominant wins against Coastal Carolina, William & Mary, and Stanford have the Cavaliers half way to bowl eligibility a third of the way through the season. A road defeat to NC State is the only blemish on the team’s resume.
Florida State poses an entirely different challenge than what UVA has faced so far this fall. The Noles upset Alabama in their season opener before two dominant wins against East Texas A&M and Kent State.
The Seminoles are led by quarterback Thomas Castellanos who last played in Scott Stadium for the Boston College Eagles in October of 2024. The Wahoo defense had Castellanos locked down that afternoon, intercepting him twice and forcing a fumble that Jonas Sanker returned for a touchdown. Those efforts led Virginia to a 24-14 win.
Now, Castellanos has a more complete supporting cast and a revamped coaching staff at Florida State. The ‘Noles are averaging 629 yards of offense per game thanks to an explosive passing attack and a running game that benefits from the threat he poses with his legs.
Can Chandler Morris and a Virginia team sporting 1995 throwback jerseys stage the upset? We’ll found out Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
