Texas Longhorns redshirt freshman wide receiver Aaron Butler is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal when the window opens in January, according to a report from Inside Texas.
Butler posted practice highlights from his time at Texas on his Tik Tok account on Tuesday.
Butler prepares to depart the Texas program as head coach Steve Sarkisian holds exit meetings with players following the conclusion of the regular season.
A late addition to the 2024 recruiting class, Butler signed with the Longhorns without taking an official visit to the Forty Acres, choosing Texas over Arizona. Earlier in the cycle, he was committed to USC and then Colorado while taking official visits to Georgia, Alabama, and Washington. A two-way standout out of Calabasas (Calif.), Butler was a consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 138 player nationally and the No. 24 wide receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, because of his big-play ability enabled by his electric speed.
Butler’s upside never translated into early playing time at Texas over two seasons as the 6’0, 170-pounder appeared in one game while redshirting in 2024 and 40 snaps over three games in 2025, recording one catch for 17 yards against Sam Houston on four overall targets.
As of late Tuesday morning, Butler is one of five Texas players expected to enter the portal.
