The Milwaukee Brewers continue their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night, as they’ll look for another series win in their fourth-to-last series of the year.
The Crew won on Tuesday night behind a solid offensive attack against Angels’ prospect Caden Dana. They scored runs in each of the first four innings and in six of eight innings overall to win 9-2, outhitting the Angels 13-3. Freddy Peralta was also solid once again, allowing just one run (a solo homer) across six innings of work,
striking out 10.
Today, it’ll be Brandon Woodruff on the mound for Milwaukee. Woodruff is coming off an extended break as he’s still recently off a year-and-a-half long injury. He last pitched last weekend in Pittsburgh, when he went six scoreless innings with just two hits and no walks allowed, striking out eight on 85 pitches. The two-time All-Star is 6-2 across 11 starts this year, with a 3.32 ERA and 74 strikeouts over 59 2/3 innings.
Opposing Woodruff is right-hander José Soriano. Soriano, 26, has been a pretty average pitcher this season, with a 10-10 record, 4.13 ERA, and 152 strikeouts over 167 2/3 innings this season. He’s coming off a pair of rough outings, allowing 12 runs (11 earned) over just 6 1/3 innings against the A’s and Mariners. Before that, however, he went 12 2/3 scoreless frames with 14 strikeouts in wins over the Rangers and Astros. We’ll see which Soriano we get tonight.
In injury news, left-handed starter Jose Quintana has hit the IL with a calf strain, suffered in Sunday’s loss against the Cardinals. That marks the end of the regular season for the veteran, though he’ll be eligible for a postseason roster spot come October. To replace him on the active roster, right-handed reliever Nick Mears was reinstated from the IL after missing just over the minimum 10 days with back tightness.
Tonight’s lineup features Sal Frelick, Jackson Chourio, and Christian Yelich at the top, followed by William Contreras, Brice Turang, and Caleb Durbin. Jake Bauers bats seven and starts at first base, with Blake Perkins and Andruw Monasterio rounding out the lineup.
First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. CT on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
