More votes/points from votes is good, right? No one’s going to argue that more votes in a top 25 poll is bad, right?
Cool, then we’re all on board with it being good that Marquette volleyball went from
16 points last week in the AVCA top 25 poll to 18 points this week. Is it a lot of upwards trajectory? Mind your business, we all just agreed that more is good.
Marquette’s 18 points drops them in between Illinois with 30 points and Iowa State with six points. Given that you have to appear on two ballots in order to be listed, I’m pretty excited about Marquette’s 18 points, especially relative to ISU’s six. That could be three 24th place votes! Maybe Marquette has 18 ballots with the Golden Eagles at #25! That’s cool, and definitely better than Iowa State. Could be two 17th place votes! Seems awesome!
Wisconsin keeps plugging along as the #7 team in the country to be the top ranked team on Marquette’s schedule at the moment, as everything in the top eight stayed mostly static this week. It’s mostly static because Kentucky and Stanford went from tied for third to #3 and #4 respectively, and they’re separated by seven points right now. Minnesota moved into the top 10, a bump up of two spots from last week, and Creighton made the same move, ascending to #14.
The only other ranked team on Marquette’s schedule this week is Florida, and the Gators have fallen from #19 to #23. A win over Alabama on Sunday snapped a three game skid for Ryan Theis’ team, and that does raise a question about what precisely Mississippi State has to do to get ranked around here, as that win moved them to 11-0 on the season. [puts fingers to earpiece] I’m being told that they have to not immediately get swept by Auburn.
There’s just one familiar name in the Receiving Votes area along with the Golden Eagles. That’s Western Kentucky, who earned four points worth of votes this week. Big fan of the Hilltoppers going 8-2 since losing to the Golden Eagles.
Marquette returns to action this Thursday night when the bright lights of FS1 activate at the McGuire Center. #14 Creighton is coming to Milwaukee for the front half of the season series between these two teams, and as always, there are Big East regular season title implications on the line. First serve is set for 6pm Central time.
