Gotham FC announced today that the club has signed veteran midfielder Meredith Speck to a contract running through the end of the 2026 season. The club has now also placed defender Emily Sonnett on the season-ending injury list after she suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during Gotham’s match against the Portland Thorns on July 24th.
Speck’s signing allowed Gotham to place Sonnett on SEI without falling below the league minimum roster size of 22.
Speck joins Gotham FC as a free agent following nine
seasons with the North Carolina Courage, where she won two NWSL championships, three NWSL Shields, and two NWSL Challenge Cups. She has appeared in more than 100 NWSL regular season matches.
Gotham FC next plays this Friday against San Diego Wave FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, with Prime Video providing live coverage.
