Not everyone has what it takes to make it to the end of a four day work week. But by Jove you’ve done it. Your reward is another weekend of college football. But before you get a start on finishing out your work week let’s get you caught up on all the most important news in Bulldog Nation.
John Frierson has a nice profile of sophomore tailback Dwight Phillips, Jr., who is only now beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. You. Can win a lot of football games with guys who aren’t that impressive
getting off the bus but can’t stop making plays once the lights come on and the ball’s in their hands. “Peanut”, who averaged 12 yards a carry against Marshall, is that kind of player.
Jordan Hill at Dawgs247 has a look at Kirby Smart’s second of three stints in Athens, the year he spent as the Bulldogs’ running backs coach during the 2005 season. One aspect of the story that bears emphasis is that Mark Richt was determined to get a young Smart to Athens even if it meant upselling him on the virtues of coaching a position he wasn’t really versed in, then moving him over to coach defense It’s interesting to think what might have been if Richt’s plan to turn his defensive backs or linebackers over to Smart in 2006 had come to fruition. Could have been a whole different SEC for fans in Tuscaloosa and Athens.
As a reminder, this weekend is the one Bulldog game this season that is available on streaming only, so some of you dinosaurs out there may be listening to Scott Howard call the action and have to ““get the picture” the old-fashioned way: in your imagination (where Peanut Phillips will seem much taller).
And speaking of kicking it old school, let’s finish of this Dawg Bites with a true classic that never goes out of style:
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
