On Monday, head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that wide receiver Ladd McConkey’s injury would be monitored on a day-t0-day basis and he wasn’t ready to give much of a timeline in regards to possible missed time.
Two days later, McConkey was a non-participant for the Chargers in their first practice of Week Two as he was seen working off to the side with trainers. McConkey suffered a rib injury after taking a big hit over the middle in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Cardinals and
did not return.
The most worrisome part of McConkey’s injury is just how impossible it looked for the offense to move the ball after his exit. If he is unable to play this week, the Chargers will have to turn to the likes of Quentin Johnston, Tre’ Harris, and rookie Brenen Thompson to carry the load with injuries also plaguing Derius Davis and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, the latter of which was placed on IR earlier this week.
Other names of note on Wednesdsay’s injury report were safety Elijah Molden (hamstring), offensive guard/tackle Trey Pipkins (knee), and defensive tackle Teair Tart (ankle) who all joined McConkey as DNPs.
Defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson (hamstring) and cornerback Deane Leonard (abdomen) were both limited while edge rusher Akheem Mesidor (calf) and returner Derius Davis (calf) were both full participants.
