The Los Angeles Rams may have found the missing ingredient to their offense, and Blake Corum is proving to be the secret sauce behind their success. Sunday’s victory over the Chargers showcased how the second-year running back’s explosive playmaking and physical running style can elevate an already dangerous offense.
While the Rams have leaned heavily on their established stars, Corum’s emergence provides another dimension that opposing defenses must account for. His ability to create opportunities,
complement the ground game and keep the offense moving could prove vital as Los Angeles pushes toward the postseason. The Rams-Chargers matchup offered plenty of takeaways, but Corum’s growing impact might be the biggest development of all.
For what it’s worth, I suggested Corum should be the team’s lead running back back after Week 2…

1st Down: Rams are wisely leaning more on Blake Corum’s explosion
For two straight weeks, Blake Corum has drawn the “start” as the Rams running back on the first series. The team still splits the carries between Blake Corum and Kyren Williams but Corum is providing something that the team has desperately needed: shiftiness and explosive ability. LA’s drive to open the third quarter was a heavy dose of Blake Corum. Corum had runs of 5, 6, 13, 8, and 23, with the final carry being for a touchdown to go up 17-9. The Rams prioritize 2nd & short and 3rd & short situations and Corum gave them exactly that.
As for Corum’s explosive ability, check out this chart…
2nd Down: Running the ball more works
For the second straight week… where have you heard that before… Sean McVay called more run plays than pass plays. Stafford had 25 passing attempts while Corum and Williams had a combined 27 rushing attempts. A lot of those rushing attempts coincidentally came in the second half where the Rams began to run away with the game. So if you are keeping record, the Rams are now 2-0 in 2026 when they call more run plays than pass plays. Perhaps Sean McVay should stay with it until it doesn’t result in a win……
3rd Down: Wesley Bailey needs to play even when Myles Garrett returns
Even though the Rams and fans want Myles Garrett want their superstar offseason acquisition to rejoin the team, the team shouldn’t make undrafted free agent Wesley Bailey the guy that sees the field less. Bailey has been as good if not better than 2025 third rounder Josiah Stewart.
When the Rams utilize their “cheetah” package, Bailey might be the third edge rusher they want to employ alongside Byron Young and Myles Garrett.
4th Down: Defense pitches 2nd half shutout
The Rams have a reputation for pitching second half shutouts. And they produced another one in Week 8. When the Rams offense starts slow like they have done a lot in 2026, it helps to have a defense that gets stronger as the game further unfolds; giving the Rams offense more and more opportunities.
