We may be in an era of high end point production from Marquette men’s lacrosse.
The
single season record was set back in 2016 when Ryan McNamara hit 57 points. That broke Jordan Greenfield’s record of 52 set one year earlier, which in turn had broken Tyler Melnyk’s record of 51 set one year before that. Melnyk was Marquette’s first ever 50 point scorer back in 2014, and for a good long time, no one other than those three broke that barrier.
Bobby O’Grady hit 50 on the number in his freshman year, but it would appear that doing that in his first season of college lacrosse might have hung a lantern on #13 and he never got back there. 49 as a sophomore, 47 as a senior, yes, but not 50.
There also used to be not that many 40 point seasons in Marquette history. When Tyler Melnyk hit 51, that was in Marquette’s second season. We had the two record setting years in the next two campaigns, but along the way no one broke 40. John Wagner came the closest back in 2018 and 2019, getting to 39 but ultimately stalling out one point short.
Not any more. Since O’Grady hit for 50 in 2022, Marquette has seen six 40+ point campaigns. Two from O’Grady as mentioned a moment ago, but also a pair of 47’s from Nolan Rappis in 2025 and 2026, a 49 from Jake Stegman, and a 50 this past spring from Carsen Brandt. That’s the fifth 50 point season in program history.
Six 40+ seasons in the past four seasons. That’s pretty great stuff! It could be a sign of evolution of the program. Someone is going to eventually break Ryan McNamara’s single season record. There were 28 players in the country who had more than 57 points in the 2026 season, with all of them going for 60 or more. 16 of them had more than 70 points, and four of them had over 80 points, including Princeton’s Nate Kabiri and Syracuse’s Joey Spallina tying for the national lead with 87 points. That’s possible in a single season, and one day, Marquette is going to have a 60 and 70 point scorer. Maybe the boosting point totals in the last few seasons is a sign of things to come.
