Pick results summary here. The top pickers from last week were slotjack and YankeeJAcket who both correctly picked 8 games out of 11 games. This was particularly impressive as the pick average for last week was 4.7
correct picks. Great job guys! donkeygoatrunner had a tough week but remains in the overall lead with 85 correct picks, although YankeeJacket is now only 2 picks away from sharing the top spot. 2 weeks left and with Rivalry Week coming up there is plenty that can still happen.
One of these days I am going to have a heart attack watching a Georgia Tech game. In a game that should have been easy the Jackets found a way to barely survive against a 1-9 record Boston College team. I know other teams deal with games like these, it just seems to be a regular occurrence for Georgia Tech. I guess I should also be happy that GT usually wins those games, but my body sure feels like it takes a toll every time. A win is still a win, and while I’m not thrilled with how the defense performed we are still in a good position in the ACC regardless of what people may think of us in the world at large.
We weren’t the only team to survive a scare last week. Texas A&M faced a challenge in South Carolina that they were eventually able to overcome despite trailing 30-3 at the half. Some teams weren’t so lucky, Alabama lost to Oklahoma while Texas dropped their road game to uga. We have an exciting end to the season on our hands.
Georgia Tech has one last regular season ACC game, and they are on the cusp of playing for the ACC championship. Pitt is a formidable opponent who are good on both sides of the ball. Georgia Tech will need to play their best game of the year to win this one. Georgia Tech has done what they need to be a 9-1 team in control of their own destiny. It may not have been pretty, but they have gotten earned their current spot in the top 25 even if some in the national media don’t agree. Now they are on the verge of having the best season for the Jackets since the start of the millennia, they just have to earn it.
Be sure to get out to this game if you can and scream and yell and do everything you can to help our boys out. GO JACKETS!!!
picks:
Pittsburgh Panthers @ #15 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-2.5)
Logan: I’m going to be stressed out all Saturday worrying over this game. Pitt is by all accounts a better team on paper. I know Haynes King and our offense will be up for the challenge, but I need this defense to show some signs of life. I don’t need the best defense in the country; I just need a couple of stops. I need a defense that can get a stop on 3rd and 10+ yards when they get in that position. I can’t tell the team how to do that, I just hope they can figure it out. I can totally see us winning this game, but I can see more scenarios where Pitt wins. Readers know how this goes, I’m picking Tech and I’m praying they can find a way to win like they have in 90% of their games this year.
Logan’s pick: Georgia Tech
Kentucky Wildcats @ #12 Vanderbilt Commodores (-9.5)
Logan: By all accounts Vanderbilt should win this game by 20 points. That said, Kentucky has been on a heater, and they need to win one of their next two games to make a bowl game. Kentucky is desperate and I think they can find a way to at least keep things close.
Logan’s pick: Kentucky
Louisville Cardinals @ SMU Mustangs (-2.5)
Logan: What would have been the other big game in the ACC this week, until Louisville lost their game against Clemson on Friday. Despite having an extra day to practice Louisville has been stumbling at the end of the season. SMU meanwhile has been playing stronger than ever. I think at home SMU should win this one.
Logan’s pick: SMU
Mizzou Tigers @ #8 Oklahoma Sooners (-7.5)
Logan: Oklahoma’s D-line is looking more and more like the best one in the nation. If that Defense can give John Mateer some good field positioning, I expect Oklahoma’s offense to be moving as well. On the road the Tigers will not be able to hold up against the Oklahoma Sooners.
Logan’s pick: Oklahoma
Battle of the Blues: Duke Blue Devils (-6.5) @ North Carolina Tar Heels
Logan: Not much of a road game for Duke as these teams are 8 miles down the road. Both these teams still have a shot at a bowl game so there is more than just the rivalry riding on this game. While I do think North Carolina has been improving all year I don’t think North Carolina has what it takes to slow down the Duke offense. Duke will win by at least a touchdown.
Logan’s pick: Duke
Big Game: Cal Bears (-2.5) @ Stanford Cardinals
Logan: I wanted to bring up this classic ACC rivalry just to mention Stanford for at least once this season. Anyone who has watched either of these teams this year probably has a good idea of how this game will go. Cal wins comfortably despite this being a rivalry.
Logan’s pick: Cal
#20 Tennessee Volunteers (-3.5) @ Florida Gators
Logan: I picked the Gators last week as I do believe in their talent, but they let me down. The Volunteers haven’t lived up to the hype from early in the season but they should be talented enough to win this game.
Logan’s pick: Tennessee
Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Penn State Nittany Lions (-9.5)
Logan: A home game at Penn State is a scary prospect for any team, but it just doesn’t ring the same after JAmes Franklin was fired. Nebraska is struggling with injuries but has found ways to win regardless. Penn State may be the more talented team but I think Nebraska should be good enough to at least cover a 10 point spread against a floundering Penn State program.
Logan’s pick: Nebraska
Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors @ UNLV Rebels (-2.5)
Logan: These teams are incredibly similar. Two great QBs, good receivers, kind of mediocre defense. One thing I am confident in is that this will be a shoot out. I think UNLV has the edge at home so I will take the Rebels.
Logan’s pick: UNLV
#12 BYU Cougars (-1.5) @ Cincinnati Bearcats
Logan: I love the bearcats. Even with the loss last week this team is feisty and has a lot of young talent. BYU is a great team but this road environment will be tough. I think Cincinnati can take this one, but it will definitely be close.
Logan’s pick: Cincinnati
#16 USC Trojans @ #6 Oregon Ducks (-10.5)
Logan: This should be a fun game. This pick has nothing to do with how I think either team will perform; I believe every time I picked USC this year they have ended up losing. Based on that alone I will take Oregon to cover.
Logan’s pick: Oregon
