New Orleans Saints cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance against the New York Giants in Week 6, the NFL announced Wednesday.
Emerson played a key role in the Saints’ 34–27 victory over the Giants on Sunday, accounting for two of New Orleans’ four takeaways. The recognition marks the first weekly conference honor for a Saints player in 2026 and the second consecutive season a New Orleans player has earned NFC Defensive Player
of the Week honors.
Originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round (67th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, Emerson spent four seasons in Cleveland before signing with New Orleans in April 2026.
Through five games this season with the Saints, Emerson has recorded 13 tackles (11 solo), two interceptions, four passes defended and one forced fumble.
