The redshirt freshman was held out of action last year with a similar injury.
Here is the release from MUTigers.com:
Redshirt freshman Trent Burns (Cypress, Texas) of the Mizzou men’s basketball team will miss time after a successful surgery on Tuesday.
Burns was recently diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right foot, a similar injury which forced him to miss his entire true freshman season in 2024-25. After electing for rest and natural recovery last year, surgery was decided this offseason as the best plan for his return to action. Burns is set to be out the next six
weeks before a return-to-play protocol will determine a more precise timeline between a full 8-12 week recovery.
“After a successful spring and early summer practice window, Trent had an injury to his foot flare up,” said Whitten Family Head Coach Dennis Gates. “We all decided that surgery was the best option for his uninterrupted contributions this season. His health is our top priority and we know this will only be a small disruption in a great basketball career. We saw in the spring and summer how much of an impact he can have with our program and we look forward to his return to the court during our non-conference season.”
A 7-foot-5 center from Cypress, Texas, Burns ranked as high as the nation’s No. 74 recruit in 2024. He averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks at Good Vision Academy as he helped the Wolves to the SWAIC regular-season and tournament titles.
We haven’t seen Burns in full action yet but his size and mobility are obviously intriguing, so there’s a bit of an anticipatory feeling around his contributions this season.
Missouri is saying normal recovery should be 8-12 weeks, 8 weeks from yesterday would be November 6th which is 3 days after they open the season. It’s obviously not ideal. We all want to see Burns on the floor and hopefully this is just a bump in the road. However it is concerning when a 7’5” person has multiple injuries with a foot. That’s the sort of injury that’s difficult to fully heal, because you do have to use your feet, ya know?
I’m taking the wait and see approach with Burns. I want him to be on the floor and to be great. But he’s got to get not he floor first. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.

I’m still waiting for the post-border war haze to lift. Hopefully a new game to watch will clear it up tomorrow.
- Week 2 of True’s TRENDS piece featured Mizzou freshman Donovan Olugbude:
Aside from one of the best catches I’ve seen in a long time, Olugbode has been rising the ranks as a clear target for Beau Pribula. In just his first two collegiate games ever, he’s racked up 7 catches for 66 yards proving that he can do it as a true freshman.
Olugbude just has the look of a future star. He moves like one, is slippery with the ball, and has flashed amazing hands.
- Sammy reached out to Shannon Belt of the Daily Advertiser to talk Cajuns:
[Louisiana freshman Danial] Beale’s first performance he graded himself an A during postgame media availability and I agree because he came away with a win. The pass game wasn’t the pretty flashy stuff but it was enough to get the job done. He didn’t put the ball in harms way and managed the game well.
Belt predicted a 12 point Mizzou win, the line is more than twice that. It’ll be interesting to say the least since the Tigers are coming off a big emotional win, and Louisiana is one of the more consistent G5 teams.
- After taking on top 5 Stanford and coming up short, Mizzou Volleyball got some rebound action against Rhode Island and Wyoming:
The Tigers opened the day with a matinee victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls in four sets— 25-14, 20-25, 25-18, 30-28.
Mizzou finished off Wyoming in the first set, 25-14. The Cowgirls started the set on a 6-3 run before eight straight points gave the Tigers a lead they would never relinquish. Mizzou outclassed its opponents at the net, winning the kill battle 16-9 and in blocks, 4-2. Set One was freshman outside hitter Asia Harvey’s time to shine, racking up five kills in the set. Joining her was Grace O’Reilly, who had four kills and two blocks.
Losing to Stanford is a good barometer for where you want to go this season.
- Mizzou Baseball released their conference schedule, and Matthew had the write up:
The team will open its conference schedule against Auburn this season, facing (one of) the other Tigers at Taylor Stadium from March 13 to 15. Auburn hosted and won a regional in 2025 before falling to College World Series (CWS) finalist Coastal Carolina in the super regionals.
Kerrick Jackson has a lot to look forward to, hoping he can prove the doubters wrong.
- Mizzou Soccer wrapped the non-conference part of their schedule and now turn their sights to SEC action, Colin has the wrap-up:
Golan has opted to a 4-3-3 formation for the majority of this season. While the defense has been solid for the Tigers, the offense ranks at the bottom of the SEC in most stats. They rank 15th in both scoring average and shot attempts. Something that is concerning is that Mizzou is ninth in corner kicks attempted this season, which shows a lack of execution in the box.
It’s been a mixed bag overall. They play physical, but the offense just hasn’t been there.
- Before the Box Score recorded on Wednesday, here’s the RM+ post open to all:
The guys discuss the Sam Horn injury and announcement that he is out for the season and discuss his potential future as a Tiger and Dodger. They also get into the topic of referee accountability and whether or not the crew from the kansas game deserved to be suspended. Finally, the Cajuns are discussed in detail as to how they match up against the Tigers.
We’re getting into the flow of the season, so episodes are flying. Make sure you’re subscribed.
