The Washington Mystics lost to the Golden State Valkyries, 62-49 on Monday night at CareFirst Arena.
Let’s say that this game sucked. The Mystics committed 17 turnovers, shot just 30 percent from the field, and were held to 16 points in the second half.
16 points is a bad day for a quarter. But for a half? Yikes.
Yes, the Valkyries didn’t do much better on offense either shooting 35 percent from the field themselves. But again, 16 points in a half is embarrassing for Washington. It was almost poetic
that the Mystics also shot about 16 percent from the field that half as well.
Sonia Citron sat this game out. Kiki Iriafen led Washington with 12 points, and Shakira Austin scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. For the Valkyries, Kaitlyn Chen led with 14 points off the bench, shooting 6-of-9 from the field.
The Mystics’ next game is on Sunday when they host the Seattle Storm. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. ET. See you then, and hopefully the game won’t be as hard to watch as this one was.
