Bad losses tend to put everything in the larger universe of Packers-related takes in free fall for a while, but at a certain point, it feels like even the most outlandish takes aren’t exaggerating anymore.
Dating back to last year’s Broncos game, the Packers have collapsed again and again, week after week, and every time it happens, it feels like we reach a new critical mass of takes. I’ve heard from readers and listeners since Sunday suggesting all manner of causes for the Packers’ trouble, ranging
from the implausible (the league told the refs to penalize the Packers as retribution for the hit on Kyler Murray) to the absurd (the Packers lost because Jordan Love has bad body language). But the weirder and more gut-wrenching ways in which the Packers lose, the harder it becomes to dismiss anything.
Are the Packers just cosmically unlucky? I mean, even if you think Matt LaFleur is the worst coach in the world, you’d think things would break his way a couple of times in the span of what’s now a six-game losing streak. How many random drops or weird bounces or phantom flags can possibly go against one team in one stretch?
All that to say, as exhausting as the wild and wacky and weird takes might be right now, it’s almost impossible to find your way out of the fever swamps, too. Much like the Packers, we’re going to have to ride this out to the bitter end.
