One of Charles Barkley’s best lines of all time was when he said, “you know things have changed when the best golfer is black and the best rapper is white,” referring to Tiger Woods and Eminem.
You could also say that things have changed when High Point goes further in the NCAA tournament than UNC. There was a time when that would have been unthinkable. Yet here we are, dogs and cats, living together, as Dr. Peter Venkman once said.
The High Point victory was especially sweet. Wisconsin is a Big Ten
team and they’re supposed to have all the advantages. But basketball is limited to five guys on the court at one time, and a 15-man roster. And when the five guys on the court are in sync, nothing else matters.
We saw that with High Point, we saw it with VCU, and we saw it for a good part of Duke’s game against Siena.
The High Point win was really memorable, down to Chase Johnson’s clinching basket, which was his first two-pointer of the season. Everything else – everything! – was a three-pointer.
This video is of the High Point student radio broadcast as the Panthers first matched Wisconsin step for step, and then as they clinch the win. It’s a lot of fun to watch.
