Barcelona got the confirmation of some bad news on Saturday as Joan Garcia underwent successful surgery on his knee that will cause him to miss the next 4-6 weeks, and Hansi Flick is certainly not happy
to be without the young shot-stopper.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Flick reacted to Garcia’s injury and called it “not good news”, but also showed plenty of confidence in Joan’s backup, Wojciech Szczesny, who will return to the Barça goal after a very successful stint last season.
‘It’s not good news to have Joan Garcia out, he was fine. He got injured in the last game against Oviedo, but these things happen. Now Tek is back, and if you look at the second half of last season, we won almost every game with Szczesny, he was there, and we won three titles with him. He’s a great goalkeeper, a great person, and I have no doubt about him.”
Having the international break during Garcia’s recovery period certainly helps alleviate the impact of his absence, but he’s still expected to miss crucial fixtures such as the upcoming Champions League against PSG and El Clásico against Real Madrid next month.
Szczesny is a great backup, however, with plenty of experience and a lot of familiarity with Flick’s system. Tek will be ready.
