For as long as this head coach search has gone on, the Cleveland Browns have likely zeroed in on their next coach to lead the team in 2026. It seems like it has come down to two candidates: Jacksonville
Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase. Udinski interviewed with the team on Saturday, while the Browns brass will be flying out to Los Angeles on Monday to meet with Scheelhaase .
As the team was able to fulfill the first of two interviews for the Rooney Rule requirement by interviewing Washington Commanders running backs coach/run game coordinator Anthony Lynn, the odds of the Browns getting their head coach could be reaching their conclusion.
For as much criticism by local fans and some media for how the Browns approached this process, if they end up getting the head coach that they want, all of the unwarranted criticism will be forgotten. Friday, it was reported that the Browns front office has done extensive work to determine who should be the main guy running the team.
Giving the candidates questionnaires and personality tests isn’t necessarily a bad thing; being compatible is important when it comes to applying for a job, especially if you are leading a football team. As the search will wrap up by Tuesday, most likely, the front runner seems to be Scheelhaase as their coach. If Scheelhaase impresses in his interview on Monday, after the Rams lost in the NFC championship game, the team won’t hesitate to make him its head coach as soon as possible.
The situation is fluid, but if you are sending out a group to Los Angeles to meet with a head coach candidate, it’s likely you want to get a deal done within the next 24 hours or so, whether that is with Scheelhaase or Udinski.
This week will be interesting in Berea.
