Real Madrid legend and club ambassador Roberto Carlos has been hospitalized in Brazil after doctors discovered a heart-related issue during routine medical tests.
The former left-back, who represented Real Madrid from 1996 to 2007 and remains one of the most iconic players in the club’s modern history, was spending time on vacation in his home country when he sought medical attention for an unrelated concern in his leg. Tests revealed a small blood clot, prompting further examination.
As a precaution,
doctors conducted a full-body MRI, which unexpectedly showed that Roberto Carlos’ heart was not functioning as it should. Medical staff acted swiftly, admitting him to the hospital for an urgent procedure.
The Brazilian underwent surgery to have a catheter inserted, a procedure that was initially expected to take around 40 minutes. However, complications during the operation extended the surgery to nearly three hours. Despite the unexpected delay, the procedure ultimately concluded successfully.
According to reports, Roberto Carlos is now out of danger and in stable condition. He remains under close medical supervision and is expected to stay hospitalized for an additional 48 hours as doctors continue to monitor his recovery and ensure there are no further complications.
