Nothing says Guardians win like being down for 7 innings.
Gavin Williams started off the game looking like what many (me) feared would be one of his 4-inning 5-run 110-pitch starts. Surrendered a 2-run homer to Pasquantino in the 1st.
After that, he was flawless. No runs, 5-innings, 3 hits, 1 walk. Pretty good bounceback. Great to see him be able to lean on his breaking stuff in recent games… it’s really been working for him.
The Guardians scored their first run on a Jose RBI groundout after Kwan doubled
to lead off the 4th (and break up Kolek’s perfecto). Then, silence. Nothing really happened until the 8th, when C.J. Kayfus rocketed a Schreiber fastball 425’ to dead center.

That’s really it. The bullpen was good, Cade Smith shut the door after “hitting” India (MAYBE scraping the velcro straps on his elbow protector that India threw into the pitch) to start the 9th.
If the Guardians want to have even the slightest chance to make the playoffs, they have to keep doing what they’re doing. Regardless, it’s cool that they finished 8-5 against the Royals this season and knocked them into third place for now.
The White Sox are in town this weekend, and are a must-sweep.
