People remember that Duke beat Auburn last season in the ACC/SEC Challenge, but tend to forget that the Tigers went up 13-2 to start the game.
This was the first hint that we got that Isaiah Evans really could shoot, because Duke was getting a game from Auburn before Evans went off.
He had 18 points in the first half, hitting six threes. After going down 11 early, Duke took a 43-36 lead into halftime and that was largely due to Evans’ explosion. He finished 6-8 on his threes. He didn’t score in the second
half, but it didn’t really matter because he gave Duke huge momentum in the first half.
As a freshman, Evans showed his brilliant outside game but was erratic for much of the season and his defense was not outstanding. He worked hard though and later in the year emerged as a more rounded player.
This year of course, Duke is going to look to Evans much more and if he can maintain his momentum and continue to improve, his elite shooting will translate into a high draft pick.
