Arsenal could be set to join the race for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez who has been linked with a move to Barcelona.
A new report from ESPN details how the Gunners have “explored the possibility” of going for Alvarez in the summer transfer window.
Sporting director Andrea Berta moved to Arsenal after 12 years with Atletico in the summer, and it seems his relationship with Diego Simeone’s side could help any potential deal go through.
Arsenal have invested heavily in the squad recently, with the likes
of Victor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke all arriving last summer. Yet Gyokeres has struggled to live up to his lofty price tag and Arsenal may now spend again.
Barcelona are also thought to be keen on Alvarez but he looks out of the club’s financial reach currently. The Argentine’s agent has previously talked up a move to Barcelona, but it’s still difficult to see how the Catalans could afford to land the attacker.
Atletico have insisted they don’t want to part ways with Alvarez, while it’s been previously reported that if he is sold it won’t be for less than €100m.
