In what feels like maybe a typo with an extra zero added, there are, as per Ben Jacobs & Co, three teams in “the race” for Chelsea striker Liam Delap with a potential £40-50m deal awaiting the winner at the finish line. A deal and a steal, if we’re being honest!
Where else could you get 2-goals-in-41-appearances level of production? Six goal contributions AND six yellow cards in six-teen hundred minutes? The Premier League Hall of Fame already has a spot reserved.
If Chelsea’s sporting director collective
can extract anywhere near £40-50m in any sort of Liam Delap transfer in the next two weeks, we just might come under investigation from the Feds just like Chelsea part-owner Mark Walter. We’d be done with loopholes and fully into evil shenanigans territory.
In fairness to Delap, I suppose the promise that made Chelsea pay £30m last summer is still there, though greatly dimmed by the past twelve months. Obviously, it’s far too early to write him off completely at just 23 — and that’s why Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Leeds United are said to be interested — but to say that he did not live up to what we saw from him at Ipswich may be the understatement of the year.
His future clearly lies away from the Bridge, but a big-money deal to make that a reality seems a rather optimistic proposition still.
