Usually, Uli Hoeneß is asked about Bayern Munich’s business. After all, he is the face of FC Hollywood. Still, FC Hollywood was not the source of the most shocking piece of news after the second gameweek of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. That was Bayer Leverkusen’s dismissal of their now former head coach Erik Ten Hag, which became the earliest dismissal in the history of the Bundesliga. This came off the back of making over a dozen signings this summer and losing some of the most important players
in the team.
Hoeneß is not one to hold back when discussing Bayern’s rivals (recall his iconic “second place is sealed” quote in response to Borussia Dortmund’s well received 2022 transfer window) but he did not muster up that energy for Leverkusen when asked about it during Sport1’s Doppelpass. “They changed half the team over the summer. I have to say I was surprised they dismissed the coach after two matchdays,” Hoeneß said instead, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “They might have had to consider that well.”
Remember, Ten Hag has a history at Bayern as well. Just about a decade ago at the time of writing, he joined Bayern Munich to coach the U-23s and to work closely with then-Bayern head coach Josep Guardiola. Hoeneß and Ten Hag may know each other from that time. It is a shame that his time to shine in the Bundesliga as the head coach ended in such a disaster.
Bayern Munich is back in Bundesliga action after an international break and just before the Champions League kicks off.
