Barcelona have confirmed that Brian Farinas has been registered with the first team for the 2026-27 season and will wear the No. 4 shirt at the club.
Farinas was expected to leave at the start of the summer but impressed Hansi Flick in pre-season and has now been rewarded with a place in the senior squad.
The midfielder will now take over Ronald Araujo’s shirt number for the campaign, following the defender’s move to Liverpool on a season-long loan.
Farinas has been at Barcelona since 2018 and will now hope he can enjoy some first-team minutes, although he does face a real battle to force his way into the team due to the intense competition for places.
Flick has said recently that Farinas deserves to play and has admitted he’s been surprised by the youngster.
“As for Brian, he surprised me in preseason,” he told a news conference before the win over Rayo. “He’s a great talent, very committed, and can play in several positions. It’s fantastic to see how much he’s improved. It’s not easy for him because there are fantastic players in his position, but he deserves to play.”
