It was announced on Sunday morning by ESPN’s Pete Thamel that Missouri has hired Michigan offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Chip Lindsey as the Tigers new offensive coordinator.
The hiring comes
after former offensive coordinator Kirby Moore was hired to be the next head coach of Washington State. Thamel reports that Lindsey has agreed to a three-year deal with the Tigers.
“We are excited to welcome Chip Lindsey to Mizzou to lead our offense,” Drinkwitz said in a news release. “He does a tremendous job of not only coaching and developing players but organizing and implementing the offense. He is an excellent offensive mind with wide range of experience from high school to offensive coordinator to college head coach.”
Lindsey spent just one season as Michigan’s OC, but has a wide range of experience across a lot of different schools. With over 28 years of experience coaching, Lindsey has had stints at Michigan, North Carolina, Auburn, Arizona State, UCF and Southern Miss.
“I could not be happier to have the opportunity to work with Eli Drinkwitz in Columbia,” Lindsey said. “What Coach Drinkwitz has done at Mizzou over that past six years is remarkable. You couple that with the commitment the University of Missouri has made to the football program, this is one of the most attractive coordinator jobs in the country.”
Prior to his season at Michigan, Lindsey served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Carolina for two seasons. He ran a high-powered offense with the likes of Drake Maye and Omarion Hampton.
From Josh’s column on the original report:
Lindsey would be a statement hire for a program looking to elevate its offense in 2026. With Ahmad Hardy and, potentially, Jamal Roberts set to return, Missouri should have one of the best rushing attacks in the country. Lindsey’s job would be to elevate the game of Matt Zollers and introduce new passing schemes that will bring back the explosiveness Mizzou fans saw during Moore’s first season in 2023.
