The Cincinnati Reds are fresh off a 12-0 thumping of the New York Mets in last night’s series opener. Eugenio Suárez had his first true breakout game of the season – certainly his first one since returning from an oblique injury that cost him a month – and for the first time the offense looked like maybe, just maybe, it would be capable of performing with Elly De La Cruz on the sideline.
Tonight, they get to see what Kodai Senga has left in the tank. The 33 year old has been out since late April with
lumbar spine inflammation, and he’d been absolutely shelled prior to landing on the IL. His final trio of starts saw him yield 17 runs (16 earned) in just 8.1 IP, with 5 dingers served up in that time, so there’s hope that maybe Cincinnati’s offense can keep the ball rolling this evening.
That’d be nice, since they’re sending out Brady Singer once more. Singer has been bopped for 17 homers already this season in just 61.0 IP, his 2.51 HR/9 second worst among the 114 MLB starters who have chucked at least 60 innings worth of baseballs so far this year. His most recent start was much more promising (and he yielded no homers in it), so maybe he’s begun to finally turn a corner.
Wouldn’t that be nice?
Still, it might be a good day to be on your toes in the RF sun deck, as balls in Great American Ball Park will likely be flying. Not from Noelvi Marte, most likely, since he’s on the bench tonight – apparently only homering in 3 out of 4 games is enough to earn you a rotation to the pine for a night.
First pitch is set for 7:10 PM ET. Lineups for both clubs listed below.
