We have officially entered the post-World Series but pre-Winter Meetings portion of the baseball season. I like to call this the “Would You Make This Trade” part of the season.
The delirium induced by the
lack of baseball that begins to form during this time should be studied by psychologists. Fan across the league, but primarily those who don pinstripes, offer up the most ridiculous, unbalanced trades they can cook up. Most of the time they feature Steven Kwan and, despite his NO TRADE CLAUSE, José Ramírez. At least on slow news days, social media can remain entertaining.
Tonight opens up the first set of off season signings. Free Agents will be able to sign with new teams starting tonight starting at 5 PM ET. This will not quell the silly trade proposals, but there are bound to be some significant roster shake ups across the league.
Quincy wrote up an editorial on why The Guardians Should Pursue Ha-Seong Kim in free agency.
Paul Hoynes with cleveland.com reports that the Guardians are expected to make a decision on John Means’ place on the roster.
Around the League (and beyond)
There were quite a few moves yesterday. Scott Barlow (RHP – 4.21 ERA, 1.39WHIP), Jorge Polanco (2B – .265/.326/.821, 26HR, 78RBI), and Jonathan Loáisiga (RHP – 4.25ERA, 1.48 WHIP) are some of the names of note that elected free agency yesterday.
It seems like Guards-ahem-GawdsBwol will be heading to Baltimore. Craig Albernaz was quoted that he will try to bring a more “diverse offense” to the Orioles as their new manager. In case you missed it, Stephen Vogt was in the first row for Craig’s first press conference as a manager, showing his long time friend support in the new role. Vogt gave Craig lots of praise and acknowledgement for his role in Cleveland’s success. The role of bench manager for the Guardians is still open with Kai Correa and Craig now gone.
