Nine days out from the NBA Trade Deadline and rumors are flying around the league with some featuring the Portland Trail Blazers.
Marc Stein reported last night that the New York Knicks may be looking for
a way to acquire veteran Blazers guard Jrue Holiday who is just over a half a season in the Pacific Northwest.
Another concept that keeps coming up: Rumbles that the Knicks have explored pathways to try to acquire Portland’s Jrue Holiday.
There are at least two clear reasons why New York would have interest in a player who helped both Milwaukee and Boston win championships this decade: 1) The presumption that acquiring Holiday — if there’s a way — would make the Knicks an even more attractive destination to Holiday’s former Bucks teammate Antetokounmpo; 2) New York is believed to hold a longstanding fondness for Holiday as a potential backcourt complement to Jalen Brunson.
Finding the money to match Holiday’s $32.4 million annual salary may be tricky with New York’s capsheet made up of decently played rotations player and largely minimum and rookie-scale deals.
In 18 games this season, the 35-year-old Holiday is averaging 15.4 points on 45.0 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from three, to go with 4.6 boards, 7.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 28.8 minutes.
Both teams face off in New York later this week.
