Thursday was a big day for two former Green Bay Packers. Earl Dotson and Tramon Williams may have inscribed their names into franchise lore 15 years apart, but they’re now inextricably linked after they were inducted together into the Packers Hall of Fame.
On their face, it’s tough to compare these two players. Dotson was a big, physical offensive tackle who quietly went about his business and locked down the right side of the line in front of Brett Favre. Offensive linemen rarely make the highlight
reel, and Dotson was even quieter than most, with no Pro Bowl recognition. But he simply got the job done, play after play and game after game and year after year.
Williams, on the other hand, was an athletic, playmaking cornerback who went from a practice squad journeyman to a Super Bowl starter. He has the highlights — his pick-six of Matt Ryan in the 2010 Divisional Playoffs being his single biggest play — and he got a Pro Bowl nod that same season as he helped lead the Packers’ Super Bowl-winning defense.
Still, these two players shared some similarities; for example, neither one was an instant contributor. Dotson was a two-year backup after being drafted in the third round, while Williams spent his first year bouncing around on practice squads and was mostly a special teams contributor in his second professional season. But both were critical pieces of Super Bowl champion teams, and now they both are in the Packers Hall of Fame together.

Dotson didn’t start a game until his third year, but he became a steady presence at right tackle for the 1990s Packers and was a key component of the team that won Super Bowl XXXI.

That’s a high bar for a player whose only extended game action was a disastrous stint in a playoff game. Still, the Packers seem to love Glover, who is back in action after missing all of last season with an injury.

Nixon, who went undrafted and started his career as a special teams stalwart like Williams, seemed to acknowledge that he was a little too focused on his pass breakup stats last season and that helped lead to a huge number of penalties. In 2026, he says he’s locked in on being a more complete corner.
