According to multiple reports on Wednesday night, head coach Kyle Whittingham and the Michigan Wolverines hosted former Utah edge rusher John Henry Daley for a visit. This is coming off the heels of a visit to LSU.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder broke out in a big way in 2025, compiling 48 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass deflection in 11 games. Due to his efforts, he was named an All-American and a first-team All-Big 12 player.
Unfortunately, Daley’s season ended early following an Achilles injury. He may not be 100 percent by the time spring ball rolls around, but he is expected to be ready by the time next season begins.
Other schools to watch for Daley — who is the No. 3 edge and No. 8 overall player in the portal according to On3 — include Notre Dame and BYU, the latter school being interesting because that’s where he was at before he transferred to Utah.
With Derrick Moore and Jaishawn Barham off to the NFL, Michigan could really use an immediate difference-maker along the edge. Daley would be just that, and with two years of eligibility remaining, he could be in Ann Arbor for a pair of seasons before going to the pros.
This is definitely a portal recruitment to watch moving forward, so stay tuned to Maize n Brew for more developments as they come in.
