After exiting the Washington Spirit’s 4-0 CONCACAF W Champions Cup win over CF Monterrey Femenil with a right knee injury in the 41st minute, there has been an update provided on Trinity Rodman.
According to Emily Olsen of the Athletic, the USWNT superstar’s initial scans showed a ‘positive long-term prognosis’ and ‘could still possibly return this year.’
“The current outlook is roughly a three-week rehabilitation process before a reevaluation, which would land around the start of the NWSL quarterfinals.
Sources were optimistic and did not rule out a return this season, depending on how the knee injury heals and how far the Spirit makes it into the postseason.”
She will miss the next three friendlies against Portugal (October 23 and 26) and New Zealand (October 29). Emma Hayes has not yet named a replacement, but has options including the U-23 squad training concurrently with the USWNT.
This was Rodman’s first call-up since April. She was dealing with an ongoing back injury that has impacted her since her rookie season – this included a trip to London to meet with a team doctor. Her last appearance for the USWNT came on August 10, 2024 at the Gold Medal Match (Paris Olympics).
The club’s next scheduled media availability will be tomorrow with head coach Adrián González who could provide more clarity.
Washington are locked in as the No. 2 seed for NWSL playoffs. They also just clinched a semifinal spot in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup.
In 15 appearances (nine starts) with the Spirit, Rodman has regained much of her form with five goals and two assists on the season.
