It appears the college football voting polls weren’t overly impressed with the Tennessee Volunteers’ 45-26 season-opening win over the Syracuse Orange on Saturday in Atlanta.
The new Coaches and AP Polls came out on Tuesday afternoon, and the Vols moved up, but not very much.
The Vols moved up just one spot in the
coaches poll from 18 to 17. They moved up two spots from 24 to 22. Not exactly a lot of respect for beating a Power Four team by three scores who won 10 games in 2024.
Notably, Alabama fell from 8 to 20 in the coaches and 21 in the AP. Florida State leapfrogged them in both polls, going to 19 with the coaches and a whopping 14 in the media polls. Ohio State, as expected is #1 in both polls after defeating Texas 14-7 at home.
It’s early, and as I mentioned before, the polls don’t mean too much given the CFP rankings controlling all, but it puts into perspective what those around the country think of programs after wins and losses from week to week. And right now, it’s clear that the Vols still have work to do before those around the nation are buying in on the Vols.
That opportunity will come in less than two weeks against Georgia on September 13.
