It’s been seven years since Roma participated in the Champions League, Europe’s premier club competition. While we miss the glitz and glamor of those midweek European matches, the Giallorossi have made a habit of advancing far in the continent’s lower-tier tournaments. Whether it was under Paulo Fonseca, José Mourinho, Daniele De Rossi, or Claudio Ranieri, the Giallorossi have reached the Round of 16 or beyond in each of the past six seasons, including two semifinals in the Europa League and winning
the inaugural Conference League title in 2022.
After missing out on a Champions League spot by just one *%&ing point last year, the capital club will once again test its mettle against Europe’s middle tier. With Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm, who won the title two seasons ago with Atalanta, Roma are surely among the favorites to win this year’s competition.
Earlier today, the Europa League Phase groups were unveiled at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
While Roma are likely favored to advance from this group, with teams like Lille, Stuttgart, Nice, and both sides of Scotland’s famous Old Firm Derby, it won’t be an easy path to glory for Gasperini’s group.
The fixture list hasn’t been released yet, but the dates of the matches are as follows:
- Matchday 1: Sep 24/25
- Matchday 2: Oct 2
- Matchday 3: Oct 23
- Matchday 4: Nov 6
- Matchday 5: Nov 27
- Matchday 6: Dec 11
- Matchday 7: Jan 22
- Matchday 8: Jan 29
And as a reminder, here is how the recently revamped League Phase works:
During the league phase, the top eight teams will automatically qualify for the Round of 16. Teams ranked 9th to 16th will enter the playoffs as seeded teams, while those ranked 17th to 24th will participate as unseeded teams. Clubs finishing between 25th and 36th place will be eliminated.
