The UEFA Youth League, the Champions League’s junior version, is rather similar to its’ senior counterpart with its’ Swiss League format, but with two significant differences: There are just 6 games and
only the first 22 are qualified for the next round.
Bayern Munich’s U-19s played the last of their six games on Tuesday against Sporting CP, throwing away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 at home. It was a rather fitting end to an awful Youth League campaign, as the Bavarians won just one game in six and end with four points from these six games. Last season, Bayern’s U-19s made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Inter Milan (just like the senior team, ironically enough) but that will not happen this season as the Bavarians finished 27th in the table and so were knocked out of the competition in the group stages.
The U-19s were knocked out in the first round of the domestic cup this season (just like last season, unfortunately), but are still going fairly strong in their domestic league, having finished top of their group in the first phase of league play.
