The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has provided an update on Anthony Gordon’s potential move from Newcastle United to Bayern Munich.
According to Hope’s information, any deal is still pending clearing three hurdles.
“Anthony Gordon’s move to Bayern Munich is still dependent on the clubs reaching an agreement on price,” Hope wrote. “As one source said, those are the three [Newcastle’s willingness to sell, Bayern’s interest, and the player’s openness to a move] key components in any transfer.”
Reports around
personal terms have been clarified after Ben Jacobs reported a few days ago that Gordon had already agreed to a contract offered by Bayern, with the Germans still having to approach Newcastle for the agreement of a transfer fee.
“Gordon has not agreed personal terms with Bayern, despite reports, but the framework of how a package would look has been outlined,” Hope wrote.
The main obstacle to reaching a deal remains the gap in valuation, with Bayern still far from meeting Newcastle’s price tag on Gordon.
“As one source said, Bayern are very structured in terms of their budget and are pitching at around the £60m mark,” Hope wrote. “Newcastle want at least £75m, possibly rising to £80m with add-ons.”
Interest from other clubs remains in the background, but everything points toward Bavaria as Gordon’s next destination.
“Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all expressed an interest, but the priority for now is Bayern,” Hope wrote. “Gordon wants any potential exit to be amicable and is very keen to play again for Newcastle this season.”
And as far as what’s next for Gordon in Tyneside, well, we might never see him don the black and white stripes again.
“It could be that the England international remains on the bench in the final two matches,” Hope wrote.
Newcastle still have two matches left, one at home this weekend and one away on the last matchday of the season, both against London clubs in West Ham and Fulham.
