The Los Angeles Rams and Myles Garrett decided together that it was best for him to get surgery now to address his knee injury with the hope that he will be 100-percent when he returns from injury reserve in a month, according to a report by Ian Rapoport on Monday. Rapoport detailed the thought process behind Garrett’s arthroscopic knee surgery that led to the reigning Defensive Player of the Year that led to him being placed on IR on Sunday, meaning he will miss at least four games on The Aftermath
show.
The Rams believe that Garrett will only miss those four games and be ready to return in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals, according to Rapoport.
This is of course not something anyone can actually predict, including doctors. It depends on how Garrett’s rehab process goes and sometimes just the luck of the draw.
Garrett will definitely miss the next four games: Giants, Broncos, Bills, and Eagles.
Those aren’t four games that anyone on the Rams wants Garrett to miss, but L.A. and Garrett’s “team” of advisors believe it’s better to go with surgery now and be 100-percent for the rest of the season, rather than wait and see how his body responds to rest. If all goes to plan, Garrett would be his normal self beginning with the Cardinals in Week 6 and onto the rest of the season.
In his first game with the Rams, Garrett recorded zero tackles. That’s the type of performance that led to the Rams discussing their options with Garrett after they return to L.A. and this is what they’ve decided on. Whether it will work as they hope is something only time will tell.
