Barcelona’s games with Real Madrid are never short of controversy and Sunday’s 3-2 win for Hansi Flick’s side in the Supercopa Clasico was no exception.
There were several challenges that caught the eye in the match, not least Raul Asencio’s hack on Pedri that resulted in a yellow card for the Real Madrid man.
Former referee Iturralde González has analyzed the footage and feels Asencio was lucky
to escape with just a booking.
“Asencio’s challenge on Pedri, in my opinion, is more of a red card than a yellow,” he told Carrusel Deportivo.
“It was a very quick play, with a kick from behind and no chance of playing the ball. For me, it’s more of a red than a yellow, but I can understand why he cautioned him given the speed of the action.”
The only player to actually see red during the game was Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman was sent off for a late challenge on Kylian Mbappe and will now serve a one-match ban.
