A new battle at the top of the division.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
At the bottom of the NFC South, the Buccaneers have been bad. Another winnable game was in front of them, but they basically gave it away. This team is 0-4 going into Week 5 with Baker Mayfield injured, bad coaching, roster issues everywhere, and a lack of run game. Green Bay also looked like they wanted to lose this game, and maybe if Mayfield was playing, they would have, but hope is lost with this team.
Tampa Bay has a tough matchup against the Dallas Cowboys
on Thursday Night Football, so it looks like this team is going 0-5.
Carolina Panthers
On the opposite end of the division, Carolina did really well on Sunday Night Football against the Detroit Lions. The offense was really consistent and picked the Lions apart all night, with Tetairoa McMillan having a career night, and the run defense did really well against Jahmyr Gibbs. That same defense allowed Jared Goff to throw for more than 400 yards, so it wasn’t perfect, but it was impressive nonetheless.
In Week 5, the Panthers have a winnable game, but the defense will need to do a bit better against the Jalen Hurts-led offense.
Atlanta Falcons
Now to our NFC South matchup of the week. The Falcons came into this game as an unknown, and they left fighting for first place in the division. Atlanta’s offense had the easiest day of their life, basically seeing zero resistance in the run and pass game, and the defense didn’t have to worry about the Saints’ rushing attack once.
The Falcons have not seen a challenge in the past two weeks; maybe that will change in Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
New Orleans Saints
On the other side of the matchup, the Saints were embarrassing in this one. Just a horrible loss in a game with so much emotion, and now, the team is 1-3 with hope ripped away from the fan base. Tyler Shough, Chris Olave, Chase Young, and Juwan Johnson are still the top guys on this team and it’s clear, but besides that group, it has not been great and now the Saints will have to go up against the Minnesota Vikings.
NFC South standings:
- Carolina Panthers (1-2)
- Atlanta Falcons (2-2)
- New Orleans Saints (1-3)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4)
