Through the summer, we will be counting down the Jets roster player by player. We continue the series by discussing Anez Cooper.
Name: Anez Cooper
Number:
72Year With Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Developmental guard
His 2025: Cooper started at right guard in all 16 games for the national runner up Miami Hurricanes and earned Second Team All-ACC honors. The Jets picked him in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
2026 will be a success if: Cooper has a quality developmental season on the practice field and looks
primed to take over the starting left guard spot in 2027. There are certain positions where you frequently see good teams find and develop late round gems. Guard is one of them. If the Jets are able to use this season turning Cooper into a starting caliber player, they will be able to save $5 million in a year moving on from Dylan Parham. Little moves like those are what make successful franchises successful.
Of course the odds are against any individual late round pick from hitting, but if the Jets are going to turn it around they need more than just a few extra early picks and excess cap space. They will need to start developing late round pick like Cooper into legitimate players.
Odds of making the roster: Most Likely (76-99%)
