Corrupción
– by Mario Crescibene
We have a word in Colombia for Paul Dolan’s massive hypocrisy: corrupción.
I did not start writing for Vox Media because I wanted to be a sports writer. I am trying to get published as a Neo Journalist who exposes corruption. Last year, I helped the National Museum of Costa Rica and the OIJ (Costa Rica’s FBI-equivalent) in recovering two stolen archeological artifacts that implicate Blue Spirit — one of the world’s premier spiritual retreat centers — in the destruction and looting
of Costa Rica’s most important indigenous cemetery. That is now entering a legal process with the OIJ and the partners of Blue Spirit.
I am currently investigating documented illegal tied-selling and deceptive business practices by Colombia’s top legal service for visa processing. And another investigation that I am heading exposes PHH Mortgage Corporation and their predatory servicing, Unfair and Deceptive Acts or Practices (UDAP), and illegal kickbacks (RESPA violations) — for which they have already had to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements. That investigation is specifically tied to a victim from Cleveland Heights.
I could go on listing the other investigations into the ruling-class parasites that plague this Earth, but the point is that I know what corruption looks like.
And Paul Dolan is corrupt.
Just yesterday, the Cleveland Guardians had their annual Cleveland Guardians Charities Giveathon. During his appearance on the broadcast, Dolan championed the work they have done, and the players’ work in the community. Do you know who didn’t appear in the community? Paul Dolan. At least not to do any real work. Lest his lavishly manicured hands get dirty.
No. Paul Dolan prefers to stay perched in his ivory tower looking down on the rabble, telling all the commoners to donate their hard-earned money — all while sipping his champagne and eating caviar in boardroom suites. You the Serfs can make donations; he will determine how your money gets used. Paul Dolan would have you think that he is a philanthropist.
Paul Dolan is a charlatan!
Do not give me this pathetic argument of what his actual wealth is. A man cannot become a billionaire without constantly choosing himself first. And do not give me this absurd argument that most of his wealth is based on valuation and not liquidity. Paul Dolan does not want liquidity. If you think that then you are a fool that has been hypnotized by the shine of his silk suits.
The ruling-class parasites do not use asset liquidity to live their lavish lifestyles. Liquidity is taxed. They use valuation to take out loans which are tax-exempt, borrowing off of their assets as collateral. Paul Dolan operates from a position of insulated financial leverage, rather than genuine sacrifice. He sits in high-backed leather chairs of boardrooms, but he does not stoop to the level of the peasants he collects money from. He purveys as a high ranking 1921 Society member, but he is not a member of society. And what little donations he makes — based on the valuation of his obscene wealth and the percentage that he tosses to the Plebeians — is nothing but a tax write-off so that he can further insulate his hoard.
Every time Paul Dolan chooses to eat Miyazaki Wagyu striploin at Marble Room, he chooses himself over feeding the hungry. He owns multiple properties, and yet millions of people live without a roof over their heads or a warm bed to sleep in. It is the manifestation of hypocrisy.
But I am no charlatan as he is. I do not call out the corrupt without walking the walk. I live in a humble studio apartment in Aranjuez, Medellin. I live with the humble people of Colombia, not the rich gringos of Poblado. I have great abundance because I have a roof over my head, and a bed to sleep in. I have food in my kitchen, and money in my wallet. What more could I possibly need? And because my basic needs are already met, how can I constantly choose to put myself first — as Paul Dolan does — when I know there are people suffering in this world?
Everyone in my neighborhood knows me by name. All the children call out Coco — my name here — whenever they see me. My homeless friends watch Atlético Nacional games with me at the local shop, and I buy them food to eat. Because food is a human right. When I have extra clothes, I give my homeless friends the clothes I do not wear. Because being clothed is a human right. And perhaps someday I will be able to buy them a tent so that they have shelter. Because shelter is a human right.
And yet what right does Paul Dolan have to lecture us on how to use our money — when his hypocrisy is on full display every time he hosts a lavish dinner? Would his “elite” comrades not throw scraps to the poor if they were not dining on gold-flaked filet mignon first? Of course not! Because the oligarchs do nothing out of good will. They act only out of the insatiable gluttony of their inflated egos. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing, bragging about their philanthropy when not a single decision that they make is done out of anything other than self-service.
So do not champion the million dollars the Cleveland Guardians Charities have raised since 2019, Paul Dolan, when it is the equivalent to 0.1% of your estimated net worth. And if you want to see what true selfless service looks like, then come to Medellin, and I will show you.
