What is the story about?
I may be old and I may be bent
But I had the Dots ’til theyall got spent
I had the Dots ’til they made me pay
Then I had the sense to be on my way
- Is the QB struggling because the offensive line isn’t blocking? Or is the QB struggling independent of the of his blocking? That has been the fundamental question about UW’s offensive underperformance through five games. It seems like we will eliminate at least one more variable on Friday against Iowa. Christian Caple writes that Landen Hatchett is very likely to make his season debut versus the Hawkeyes. The absence of the veteran center, who has dealt with lingering recovery from a wrist injury, has forced the Dawgs to rearrange the line in an uncomfortable way. Perhaps Hatchett’s return will be the key brick in the wall that can help keep Williams clean(er).
- The Seattle Times dedicated its inchesto the other side of the ball. Dylan Robinson did not start against USC, but came in later and put together his best performance of the year against a dynamic passing offense. The intermittent absences of Robinson, Emmanuel Kearnley, and Rayshawn Clark have presented the defensive secondary with some of the same challenges the offensive line has faced. However, Ryan Walters’ unit has handled the adversity much better so far.
- If you want to learn more about UW’s opponent this week, Dawgman has a podcast with David Eickholt of Hawkeye Insider. The Hawkeyes are a program unlike any other in college football these days with a commitment to building long term, playing sturdy defense, and running the ball. Eickholt talks about the team’s philosophy, history, and fans’ feelings about this year’s squad.
- UW Women’s soccer will also host Iowaon Thursday night. The #13 Dawgs are coming off a 1-0 win over USC. The game will also be a celebration of late UW GK Mia Hamant. The last time the teams faced off was in the 2024 Big 10 Tournament, where Hamant saved three penalties to help UW advance in a shootout.
