There is plenty of uncertainty within the Pittsburgh Steelers right now as to what exactly the roster will look like come week one next season under Mike McCarthy in his first year as head coach. Veteran defensive captain Cam Heyward would be entering his 16th season with the Steelers in 2026, but his latest tweet has everyone questioning his football future.
The closing book GIF could truly be referring to anything. Could Heyward be referring to his own football future?
While that makes sense, it is also fair to question if Heyward’s tweet is in response to a report about quarterback Aaron Rodgers future with the Steelers.
On Sunday, it was reported that the odds of Aaron Rodgers returning to the Steelers for another season seem to be increasing. If Rodgers does return, it would make sense for Heyward to come back and try to get the Steelers their first playoff win in a decade. Heyward is entering the last year of his deal and could plausibly be looking to earn more money for one final season in Pittsburgh. Heyward’s post could mean Rodgers is indeed coming back.
Heyward will be 37 in May and has been in the NFL for 15 seasons. In an interview with Colin Cowherd earlier in the week, Heyward even discussed why he wants to continue playing for the Steelers. Despite his age, the defensive lineman has not slowed down one bit and is still producing like one of the best at the position. It’s hard to imagine the Steelers not welcoming him back if he decides to continue playing, but it does seem that Heyward is contemplating his future.
