Robert Lewandowski is one of the senior figures in the dressing room at Barcelona but isn’t part of the team’s leadership group.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha
are the captains for the 2025-26 season, with Lewandowski overlooked once again.
Barcelona’s players traditionally vote for the captains and journalist Toni Juanmarti has a theory as to why Lewandowski is not part of the group.
“When he joined the club, he brought not only mentality but also an ethos of hard physical work,” he told Fakt.
“Robert played the bad cop and put pressure on his teammates during training. For the young players, of whom there were many in the locker room, he proved to be a very strict teacher. And they probably didn’t vote for him.”
Lewandowski may not wear an armband but hs leads by example. He enjoyed his best scoring season at Barcelona last year at the grand old age of 36 and will be hoping to get back in the goals when he returns from injury.
