The Texas Rangers have non-tendered Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim, Josh Sborz and Jacob Webb, the team announced today, making each of the four free agents. In addition, the team announced that it had re-signed
outfielder Sam Haggerty to a one year deal.
Nothing exactly shocking in this news. When the arbitration projections came out, we said that Garcia, Heim and Sborz seemed to be likely non-tendered. Of late I was leaning more towards the Rangers hanging on to Heim, given the lack of catchers out there available who can start 90-100 games a year, but the Rangers have instead decided to move on.
Webb is somewhat surprising — the Rangers signed him last offseason after he had been non-tendered by the Baltimore Orioles, and his arbitration number of $2 million seemed reasonable after a decent 2026 season, especially given the lack of other choices. But it appears the Rangers think they can do better, or get Webb for cheaper.
I have not seen the terms of Haggerty’s deal, though when an announcement that a contract has been signed is made on non-tender day, it is usually because the team gave the player a choice of accepting a contract or being non-tendered. Haggerty, entering his final year of arbitration eligibility before becoming a free agent after the 2026 season, was projected at $1.4 million, and likely signed for a little less than that.
The other arbitration-eligible Rangers who it appears have been tendered contracts are Jake Burger, Josh Smith, Josh Jung, and Ezequiel Duran.
