Jonathan Tah has been a hit of an addition in the Bayern Munich defense this season. However, is the new guy about to lose his center-back partner that he has been so solid starting with? That will depend
on if the Bavarians can lock down Dayot Upamecano.
Tah won’t pressure his teammate but did weigh in with his thoughts on how good the situation is right now.
“I think he feels very, very comfortable here,” Tah said in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “He’s emphasized that many times. He’s been with Bayern for a long time and senses that the coach can offer him something. He feels that the team is good, that the atmosphere and the energy are good. But that’s a decision he has to make.”
How well one center-back plays can depend a lot on how well suited he is with his partner — both in terms of player profile and communication. In their short time together Tah and Upamecano have seemed to click instantly, and though it is not perfect it has been a productive pairing. Naturally, we can expect Tah would prefer not to see it broken up. And it is a good sign that his teammates are all but lobbying Upamecano to stay.
