There was some extra tension on the touchline during Bayern Munich’s 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
BVB head coach Niko Kovač and Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks were involved in a heated exchange during the match, with emotions clearly running high between the two benches.
Kovač was asked about the incident after the final whistle, but he chose not to reveal exactly what was said. However, his response made it clear that he was unhappy with what came
from the Bayern Munich bench.
“My English is pretty good, so I understood very well what he was trying to say to me. That was not okay. It’s on him; he should apologize,” Kovač told Kicker (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It adds another interesting layer to an already intense Klassiker. Bayern Munich ultimately walked away with the trophy after goals from Nathaniel Brown and Michael Olise, while Fábio Silva pulled one back for Dortmund in the second half.
Whatever was said between Kovač and Danks, it certainly did not go unnoticed on a fiery night in Dortmund.
