Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund sat down for an interview with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg and wanted to punt on the notion of the team going undefeated — something that seems so improbably
that it is not worth pondering at this point.
“It’s far too early to talk about that. We’ve had a fantastic start, we’re in really good form, but the season is long and anything can happen. It would be presumptuous to look that far ahead now. We’ve laid a great foundation, but now we’re moving forward and taking it one game at a time. Anything can happen in any single match. That’s why it’s important that we prepare really well. The team will do that, will be well-prepared by the coach, and every game has its own unique story,” said Freund (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Union Berlin showed that the Bavarians are vulnerable, but it also showed how resilient the team was to earn a late draw. Going undefeated might be impossible these days, but you do not have to win every game to be great.
If the Bavarians continue to bring a strong effort as consistently as they have so far, the ceiling on this season is extremely high.
