Nebraska 3-FGCU 0: 25-10, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14
Today was a good day for the Huskers bench as DBK was able to put almost their entire roster into the match. It was a good way to close out the Ameritas Players Challenge and it was nice to see what other girls can do before B1G play starts. We probably won’t see the bench players as much once conference gets going.
After FGCU played North Carolina, the Eagles got to enjoy the night in Lincoln and even got to take in the Nebraska-North Dakota football game.
FGCU’s lone player from Nebraska even sported a Husker hat! So cool to see away teams taking in some of the fun things to do in Lincoln during the fall!
Today’s match looked like it was going to be a quick 3-0 sweep, but once the Huskers 2nd team came in, FGCU started to go off. FGCU kept their streak of not getting swept at all this season going and they definitely put up more of a fight later in the match than they did earlier.
Jayden Robinson played her first ever points in a Husker jersey which was very exciting to see! I feel like everyone was wondering where she was at since DBK has been playing the bench a lot. She had a solid set of match time with 1 kill, hitting .500%.
We hadn’t seen Keoni Williams in a while either as she came into the match in the 2nd set and got her 2nd and 3rd kills of her college career today. Manaia Ogbechie played MB1 with Williams.
Our hitting was way more consistent than it was Saturday as the Huskers hit above .400% in sets 1 and 2. Set 3 was a little rougher as girls whose don’t get a lot of playing time were on the court.
Manaia Ogbechie and Olivia Mauch were the only starters to stay in the match going into the 3rd set as DBK put the Huskers 2nd team in to get some minutes together.
FGCU took advantage of this in the 3rd set, being the first team to reach 15 points. The Eagles knew they had nothing to lose so they continued to play how they know and were able to lead the match for a couple points.
The 3rd saw some extra points played as the Huskers came back from a 24-20 deficit to tie the match at 24. It wasn’t enough though as FGCU got an ace to win set 3 and send the match to set 4.
After struggling in the 3rd set, Gabby DiVita came out of the match as Harper Murray was put back in, in the 4th, to give the team some energy and ensure the match didn’t go tot 5 sets today. Teraya Sigler had also came back in at the very end of the 3rd set to see and see if she could help too.
Harper Murray helped lead the team back in the right direction and get the set 4 win by 11 points. She was the only senior to come back into the match for the team.
Teraya Sigler had a team high 13 kills, hitting .333%. Harper Murray probably had the best match on the team tonight with 11 kills on 18 attempts and only 1 error. Murray hit .556% for the match.
Ryan Hunter also got another shot today and got to play in 2 sets. Including the kill that won the match, she had 7 kills, hitting .167%. Manaia Ogbechie followed with 5 kills, Adriano, Flynn, and Pierce with 4, and Williams had 3 of her own.
Laney Choboy seemed to be a little shaken up during a play earlier in the match and didn’t really look like herself after. She only played in 3 of the 4 sets today so hopefully everything is ok with her.
The Huskers will be back in action, for the last non-conference match, on Wednesday night to play Missouri as this is the rescheduled match from Wrigley Field. The match will begin at 0-0 even though it was suspended at 11-7. Both teams agreed to this. The match will begin at 6:00pm CST and will be televised on B1G Network.
