What is the story about?
Barcelona
have officially clinched the 2025/26 La Liga title thanks to a 2-0 win in El Clásico against Real Madrid on Sunday night at Camp Nou. After putting a show and securing the lead in the first 20 minutes, the Blaugrana managed the rest of the game and kept a clean sheet as they sealed back-to-back league titles against their biggest rivals in front of the home crowd.
Reactions & Observations
- The opening 20 minutes were a masterpice in attacking football from Barça, who sliced open Madrid’s defense with great passing and movement and some beautiful individual skill. Marcus Rashford scored a spectacular free-kick and Ferran Torres finished off an outrageous team move that included a glorious assist from Dani Olmo, and Barça had a quick two-goal lead and started the party early.
- Madrid had a solid reaction and had two big chances to find the net, but Gonzalo García missed a one-on-one and Eric Garcia made a spectacular sliding tackle to deny a Vinicius Jr. tap-in, and Los Blancos tried to keep the ball and create some offense but never came close to troubling Joan Garcia again.
- Barça continued to create opportunities and Thibaut Courtois made a brilliant fingertip save to deny Rashford, but the Catalans were content with a two-goal lead and decided to run out the clock at the end of the first half as they produced a masterful two-minute Rondo exercise in which they passed the ball around as Madrid watched and made a clear statement of their superiority in the game as we went into halftime.
- The second half was all about managing the game and making sure they wouldn’t have to go through drama on their way to winning the title, and Barça did exactly that: the Catalans didn’t score a third despite having a few chances to do so, but they also didn’t concede and played a stress-free final period apart from a couple of dust-ups and a few yellow cards.
- The final whistle came to start the celebrations at Camp Nou, as Barça were able to finish the job in drama-free fashion and clinch back-to-back league titles at home.
- Lots of love for Hansi Flick, for whom the night was certainly bittersweet given the news of his father’s passing earlier in the day. Hopefully the celebrations made things a little bit easier for the coach, who was shown a lot of love after the match.
- Well done, boys! CAMPEONES DE LIGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
